Astoria

Astoria_Street Fair_NYC Street Ramen Contest

A last minute street fair excursion stopped us in Astoria.
(one of the most ethnically diverse places on Earth)

While the festival most eccentrically plugged the 2nd stop of the NYC Street Ramen Contest, the street fair atmosphere produced many of the fried staples of classic city street and county fairs: corn tortillas, fried oreos & octopus balls.

For one afternoon, our distinguished, always fashionable friends from the East had Queens under police barricade and lockdown.

From action figures and food trucks selling squid to dragon decals, Broadway and 41st was flooded with Japanese food and drink with the occasional, but classic, gyro stand placed sparsely throughout the fair.

People and food of different cultures mingling and matching--trying to see where taste might intersect.

You can catch the final two stages of the competition here.
