On behalf of Queens Subject, here's a birthday shout out to Jon (Louie), our beloved, incognito photographer for turning 22 today! And a belated to Josh, our wonderfully eloquent writer.

For purposes of Louie hiding behind the camera, let's dive into Louie 101:

1. He loves cereal

5. And has an uncanny knack for complimenting

We can hands down say that he possesses raw talent in capturing aesthetically breathtaking pictures with his trusty but basic 7 yr-old D-SLR. He's just that good.  

We really appreciate you, Lou.

Disregarding the H&M overkill in this outfit, the all black here is worth noting because it's such a rarity for me.  Snow is such a pretty sight but always leaves us brown slush and salt-stained shoes, it's really a love-hate kind of thing.  Beanies are the it-accessory of lately though it's always an essential, especially for us east coasters.  BCBG gave the beanie a full stamp of approval with their collection last week.  Other materializing trends include turtlenecks, skirts w/ knee-high boots, contrast patterns, and plaid in a lot of the F/W '13 collections.

Not the most fitting attire for the dead of Winter, but denim always works -- any season, any day. The fade, collar tips, and subtle gold for details.

Fashion week is here, definitely looking forward to seeing trends for the upcoming F/W seasons. Snowstorm "Nemo" is also heading its way to the Northeast this wknd...I have to applaud whoever thought of the name for this one.

Bayside LIRR Station - Anna Lee

We took our very first photos for QS here in the summer, and I clearly remember that day because the sky threw up a double rainbow.  And suddenly, we've gone from 2012 to 2013, day to night, Summer to Winter. I know we all love bum days but pass on the sweatpants and make an effort to dress well (but warm) everyday, it'll make Winter worthwhile. As for old coats, just add a layer for texture (in this case a fur vest), a fur lapel, or sew in new buttons and voilà...new outerwear.

I hear that this week is going to be frigid, degrees hitting the wretched teens and even more so, the single digits (well, Upstate at least). Wonderful.

Missed us? Of course you did. Long overdue but, Happy 2013! The whole crew has returned for the freezing month long break that college so graciously offers.  Miri braved out the cold with some fine details and bam, that striking wine colored hair for a game changer.

If you haven't been to Ft. Totten, it's a sight for sore eyes especially when the sun falls...even though I've probably been there one too many times.  If you're in the area, stop by Press 195 and Martha's Bakery while you're there.

Look forward to seeing us more this Winter, we'll be around.  Stay warm!

Crisp mornings, pumpkin spice lattes, gradient foliage, chunky knits, beanies...signaling the most coveted season that no one can complain about.  But before you stow away your summer wardrobe, take notes from Josh.  Fuse bright colors (or florals) with cooler tones for the pop effect and throw on a printed windbreaker to be Autumn appropriate.

We made our way to Al-Sham Sweets in Astoria and indulged in authentic Turkish treats that only cost a dollar. Yes, a dollar. The local thrift store on the other hand, did have a few good finds.

Beachwear is the single most anticipated season in the calendar. With throngs, literal throngs, of women (and men) throwing themselves simultaneously at retailers and magical youtube screens that read like tell-all books on how to "get that perfect beach bod now" the whole season seems a little too contrived. A relaxing day of sand and sea became this man-made day of slick oils and bikini prints.

Anyone can buy out the fashion's new fall line. It's hard to fashion cool.

But here come the lovely ladies of Queens we've been featuring all summer--mixing and matching print after print, fabric after fabric--doing what they do best: they improvised.

A jean button-up and a black chiffon button-up is beach cool as long as you're comfortable in it.

A big shoutout to the friends who kept up with our blog, waiting anxiously every Sunday Night for the weekly Sunday Best. @jiyoonyoo @elizang. And to my boy, J. Louie who made a photo blog about clothes and the people we know who like wearing them even remotely feasible.
